Widespread thunderstorms swept across parts of southern Vietnam on the afternoon of October 8, bringing rainfall of 26-110mm in many areas, with some locations recording more than 120mm.
The rainy season is expected to remain at its peak in Ho Chi Minh City and southern Vietnam through October 10, forecasters said.
Meanwhile, water levels in rivers and canals across Ho Chi Minh City and other southern localities are expected to rise rapidly during the high-tide cycle in the ninth lunar month.
The highest tides are forecast to occur between October 10 and 12.
Meteorologists have urged residents to remain alert to flooding in low-lying areas and along rivers and canals, particularly when heavy rain coincides with high tides.
