Ho Chi Minh City forest rangers and local authorities on October 7 successfully captured the monkey after it had been roaming and causing trouble for several days in the 50-hectare Cat Lai residential area.

The animal was first spotted near Road 40-CL. Rangers and local authorities were alerted and arrived at the scene to devise a plan to approach and capture it.
After about 30 minutes of luring the monkey with food and gradually moving closer, rangers used a specialised tranquiliser gun to sedate and restrain it.
An initial examination identified the animal as a male monkey weighing about 9.5kg. It was taken to the Cu Chi Wildlife Rescue Station for care before being released back into the wild in accordance with regulations.
Residents said the monkey had attacked two German shepherds belonging to a household on the afternoon of October 6. The animal returned to the area in front of the house the following morning. Residents and security guards used bananas to keep it there and help rangers approach.
According to several households in the 50-hectare Cat Lai residential area, the monkey had been climbing across corrugated-metal and tiled roofs, making noise and entering homes to search for food for about two months.
Its ability to move quickly between closely packed multi-storey houses made it difficult for residents to chase away or capture.
Several families with young children said they had to keep their doors shut because they feared the monkey could enter their homes and attack their children. Residents reported the problem and asked local authorities to intervene.
