Under a draft detailed plan, the project will cover about 96 hectares in Dong Hoi and Dong Thuan wards, with estimated investment of nearly VND 1.8 trillion.
The plan includes expanding Truong Phap Street and redeveloping the Nhat Le coastal area. The eastern side would feature public spaces, parks, squares and beaches, while the western side would accommodate urban development, services and parking.
The project aims to broaden Nhat Le's appeal beyond seasonal beach tourism by adding entertainment, dining, public spaces and night-time activities to encourage visitors to stay longer.
Quang Tri Vice Chairman Phan Phong Phu has asked relevant agencies and local authorities to accelerate planning and redevelopment, while ensuring the proposals make the most of the area's coastal advantages and attract investment.
Authorities are also working to relocate businesses along the beachfront while seeking to protect the livelihoods of affected residents.
At Nhat Le 2 Beach, 29 businesses are to be relocated as part of the redevelopment. Dong Hoi Ward aims to clear and hand over the site by November 15, 2026.
Another 75 seafood businesses around Nhat Le Beach and Bao Ninh 1 Square are also being considered for relocation. Authorities are studying alternative business areas to minimise disruption to local livelihoods.
Dong Hoi Ward is also considering new landscaping, greenery, lighting, photo spots and tourism infrastructure as part of the coastal upgrade.
With its beach close to central Dong Hoi and existing accommodation, dining and tourism services, Nhat Le is expected to develop into a destination offering activities throughout the day and across more of the year.
