The previous afternoon, at about 3.30 pm on October 4, a group of five people from Hoa Phu Village, Phan Ri Cua Commune, went camping at the spillway. The group included Linh and Tran Ngoc Quyen, born in 2013.
At about 6.30 pm, floodwaters suddenly surged down from upstream, sweeping Linh and Quyen away.
Authorities and local residents launched a search. At about 7.35 pm, rescuers found Quyen alive. The teenager was in stable condition, while Linh remained missing.
The search was suspended overnight because of darkness and strong currents and resumed on the morning of October 5.
