The An Giang People's Committee and Cambodia's Kandal provincial authorities held a ceremony on October 3 to officially open the Khanh Binh-Chrey Thom international land border gates.
The crossing is the second international land border gate linking An Giang with Kandal, after the Vinh Xuong-Kaam Samnor crossing.

Speaking at the ceremony, An Giang chairman Ho Van Mung said the two provinces had maintained close cooperation in areas including border security and public order, border demarcation, trade, agriculture, tourism and culture.
The Khanh Binh-Chrey Thom crossing has strategic advantages in terms of location and transport connectivity and is about 75km from Phnom Penh, Cambodia's capital.
The area offers favourable conditions for both road and waterway connections and is planned to link with the Chau Doc-Can Tho-Soc Trang Expressway. These factors are expected to support the development of border trade, logistics services and tourism.
An Giang expects the crossing to become an important goods transit point linking the Mekong Delta with Cambodia and other ASEAN markets. The province aims for the total value of goods imported and exported through the crossing to reach about USD 1.2 billion by 2030.
The crossing is also expected to support the development of international tourism routes connecting An Giang and Cambodia. Growth in border trade could attract more investors to the An Giang Border Gate Economic Zone.
Greater cross-border connectivity and trade are also expected to strengthen border security and help prevent transnational crime, high-tech crime, illegal immigration, human trafficking and trade fraud.
“We urge the relevant authorities of the two countries, particularly An Giang and Kandal provinces, to continue close coordination, regularly exchange information and promptly address emerging issues,” Mung said.
He also called for measures to facilitate immigration, import and export activities and the movement of goods among border residents while ensuring national defence, security and effective border management.
Kandal governor Kuoch Chamroeun said more than 134,000 people had entered Cambodia through the two border crossings in the first nine months of 2026, while more than 129,000 had crossed into Vietnam.
International tourists also travelled through the crossings, contributing to tourism and people-to-people exchanges between the two provinces.
Chamroeun said the Kandal administration would continue to strengthen its solidarity, friendship and cooperation with An Giang across various fields.
Authorities on both sides have also stepped up coordination, experience-sharing and information exchange to prevent illegal immigration and maintain security and public order along the border, while facilitating travel and trade for residents on both sides.
An Giang has one of the largest numbers of border gates among Vietnam's provinces and cities. Its border with Cambodia has seven crossings: four international gates at Vinh Xuong, Khanh Binh, Tinh Bien and Ha Tien; two main gates at Vinh Hoi Dong and Giang Thanh; and one auxiliary gate at Bac Dai.
