Man arrested over alleged sale of fake Rolex, Cartier watches

A Ho Chi Minh City company director has been arrested for allegedly selling counterfeit watches and jewellery bearing famous brands including Rolex, Omega and Cartier.

Ho Chi Minh City police said on October 2 that they had prosecuted and detained Tran Trung Du, 29, director of Dwatch Trading and Services Co Ltd, for allegedly infringing industrial property rights.

According to the initial investigation, police found signs that Dwatch was selling watches, necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings bearing counterfeit versions of foreign brands including Rolex, Omega, Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Richard Mille and Hublot.

After conducting an investigation, authorities inspected the company's premises in Tan Son Nhi Ward.

They seized a large quantity of watches and jewellery. The items were unused and had no invoices or supporting documents, and showed signs of bearing counterfeit trademarks protected in Vietnam.

The seized goods were valued at about VND 2.5 billion (USD 96,300).

During questioning, Du said he had established Dwatch and begun trading in early 2025. He knew the watch and jewellery brands were protected in Vietnam but continued to publicly advertise the products on websites and social media platforms including Facebook and Zalo in an attempt to make a profit.

Authorities are expanding their investigation into the case.
