The 2026 Golden Harvest and Moss-Roof Village Festival will open at 7.45 am in Xa Phin Village, Thanh Thuy Commune, with activities highlighting local traditions and the area's natural landscape.
The programme will feature competitions in making banh day, harvesting rice, roasting tea and preparing Dao dishes. Visitors can also explore the village and its terraced rice fields.
Located at the foot of the Tay Con Linh mountain range, Xa Phin is known for its traditional houses with palm-leaf roofs covered in green moss, surrounded by terraced fields stretching across the hillsides.
Local farmers typically grow one rice crop a year. During summer, the flooded terraces reflect the sky, while in autumn the fields turn golden as the rice ripens.
Xa Phin has 54 households and 270 residents, all belonging to the Dao ethnic community. Eleven traditional moss-roof houses remain in the village.
The moss develops naturally on the roofs over time, giving the houses their distinctive appearance and reflecting traditional local building practices.
Some residents have begun developing community-based tourism, offering homestays, meals and other services. Several traditional houses have been adapted to accommodate overnight visitors.
Local authorities hope the festival will help promote Xa Phin's natural attractions and cultural traditions while supporting community-based tourism and creating additional income opportunities for residents.
