On September 24, Dantri representatives presented a symbolic cheque for VND 85.63 million in reader donations to Ha Huynh Thi Ngan, daughter of Huynh Thi Kim Huong.
The money had previously been transferred to Ngan's account to help the family cover medical and funeral expenses.
The accident occurred at around 4.30 am on August 2, when Huong, born in 1952, got up to cook for her grandchild before work. Gas exploded as she turned on the stove, leaving her with severe burns.
Neighbours rushed her to Military Hospital 175 in HCM City, where doctors provided intensive treatment.
As treatment costs mounted and the family faced financial difficulties, hospital staff appealed to Dantri readers for support.
Readers and benefactors subsequently donated towards Huong's medical expenses. Despite more than 40 days of treatment, she died from her injuries.
Tran Van Thanh, an official from the hospital's Social Work Department, said doctors had used all available expertise, equipment and resources in an effort to save Huong, but her injuries were too severe.
Ngan thanked the hospital's doctors, Dantri and its readers for their support, saying the donations had helped the family pay medical bills and funeral expenses.
