From the night of September 23 into the morning of September 24, rising floodwaters inundated homes in several areas, including Ham Thang, Ham Liem and Binh Thuan, with water reaching 0.5-0.7 metres in some places.
Some residents moved to safer areas, while crops were also damaged by flooding.
Authorities deployed personnel to severely flooded areas to assist residents and help move belongings to higher ground.
Residents said repeated heavy rain on September 23 had prompted many households in low-lying areas to raise furniture and other belongings before floodwaters arrived.
Along the Cai River in Ham Thang Ward, residents moved household items to higher ground on September 24, while some families temporarily relocated.
Sections of National Highways 28 and 1A through Ham Thang were deeply flooded, disrupting traffic and causing several motorbikes to stall. Warning signs were placed at severely flooded locations, while some residential roads became impassable.
As of 9 am on September 24, flooding persisted in parts of Binh Thuan, Ham Liem and Ham Thang, temporarily isolating some households and disrupting travel.
Six reservoirs in eastern Lam Dong were simultaneously releasing water to maintain dam safety and reduce flood risks. They included Suoi Da, Song Khan, Du Du, Song Quao, Ba Bau and Long Song reservoirs.
According to the Binh Thuan Irrigation Works Exploitation Company, areas potentially affected by the releases include Ham Thuan Bac, Ham Thuan, Ham Liem, Ham Thang, Ham Kiem, Tuyen Quang, Phan Thiet, Tien Thanh, Tuy Phong and Lien Huong.
Reservoir operators were instructed to notify local authorities before opening spillways or increasing discharge volumes.
Local authorities also warned residents living downstream along rivers and streams to move belongings to higher ground, protect crops and livestock, and stay away from low-lying and riverside areas during the releases.
Emergency personnel remained stationed in flooded areas to help residents move property and evacuate from severely affected locations. Students at several schools were also given the day off on September 24 for safety.
