A 2,000-year-old bronze drum and several national treasures are among more than 45,000 historical and cultural artefacts held by the Quang Tri Provincial Museum.

The Tra Loc bronze drum is one of five national treasures currently on display at the Quang Tri Provincial Museum. Dating back 2,000 years, the drum was discovered in Vinh Dinh Commune, Quang Tri Province.

It stands 27cm tall, has a face diameter of 33.5cm, a base diameter of 41.5cm and weighs about 8kg. A 10-pointed star is prominently featured at the centre of the drum, surrounded by intricate decorative patterns.

The La Nhi Tra Lien 1 and 2 reliefs have also been recognised as national treasures and are displayed at the museum's second facility.

Carved from shale, the two reliefs date to around the second half of the ninth century. They depict the sun god Surya, the Hindu god Shiva and the goddess Uma, reflecting the religious beliefs of the Cham people.

Another national treasure held in Quang Tri is the Duong Le Uma statue, discovered in Trieu Binh Commune, Quang Tri Province.

Carved from sandstone, the statue weighs 125kg and stands 60cm tall. It depicts the goddess Uma, according to Cham religious beliefs, seated on a pedestal.

The Quang Tri Provincial Museum also displays a wide range of stone artefacts, ceramics and bronze objects from different historical periods.

Artefacts associated with the Champa civilisation, dating from the ninth to 11th centuries, form a distinctive part of the museum's collections.

Spears, javelin heads, daggers, bronze arrowheads and other weapons dating from the Dong Son culture have also been discovered in the province.

The museum's collection of gongs includes traditional musical instruments used by the Bru-Van Kieu ethnic community.

Alongside its national treasures, the Quang Tri Provincial Museum preserves artefacts and historical records spanning the prehistoric period, the Champa civilisation, local history from the 11th century to 1945, and various periods of resistance against foreign forces.
