The landslide occurred in the early hours of September 17 at a house in Tu Ly Village, Da Bac Commune, Phu Tho Province, according to local authorities.
The victims were a 47-year-old man, his 47-year-old wife and the man's 79-year-old aunt. They were asleep inside the house when the incident occurred.

Heavy rain triggered a landslide on the mountain behind the house, sending around 40 cubic metres of soil and rocks into the property. The debris caused two bedrooms to collapse and buried all three victims.
Rescue teams were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of the incident. After clearing a large amount of soil and rock, they recovered all three victims, who had died.

Local authorities and rescue forces removed the victims' bodies from the landslide area and handed them over to their families for funeral arrangements.
