Three consecutive earthquakes strike mountainous Danang

Three earthquakes struck at midday on September 17 in Tra Giap, Tra Tan and Tra Tap communes, Danang City.

According to the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Centre under the Institute of Earth Sciences, at 10.41 am on September 17, a magnitude 2.7 earthquake struck Tra Giap Commune. The earthquake was recorded at 15.171 degrees north latitude and 108.230 degrees east longitude, with a focal depth of about 8.1 kilometres.

The second earthquake occurred at 10.52 am in Tra Tan Commune. It measured magnitude 2.6 at 15.209 degrees north latitude and 108.166 degrees east longitude, with a focal depth of about 8.1 kilometres.

About 30 minutes later, at 11.23 am, the third earthquake struck Tra Tap Commune. It measured magnitude 3.0 at 15.124 degrees north latitude and 108.111 degrees east longitude, with a focal depth of about 8.1 kilometres.

The Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Centre under the Institute of Earth Sciences said it was continuing to monitor the earthquakes.

Le Minh Chien, chairman of the Tra Tan Commune People's Committee, said he was in a meeting when the earthquake struck and felt light tremors.

In Tra Giap Commune, Phung Van Nam, chairman of the Commune People's Committee, also said he felt slight shaking when the earthquake occurred in the area.

An official working at the Tra Tap Commune People's Committee said that although he was seated inside the solid headquarters building, he still felt his chair shake when the earthquake struck.
