Haiphong to pilot new night-time shopping and food street

Haiphong City will pilot a new night-time commercial, cultural and food street in the Lach Tray area from October 15, offering more entertainment options for residents and tourists.

The northern port city has approved plans to launch the street around 53 Lach Tray Street in Gia Vien Ward.

The pilot area will cover roads connecting Lach Tray Street with An Bien Lake, including spaces between the Children's Cultural Palace, the city's Martyrs' Monument and the Viet-Tiep Friendship Labour Cultural Palace, as well as a section along the lake behind the monument.

The street will operate from 5 pm to midnight daily from October 15, 2026, to April 15, 2027.

Gia Vien Ward authorities have been tasked with finalising the scheme and drawing up plans for traffic management, temporary use of roads and pavements, and fire prevention and safety.

The city police will coordinate measures to ensure security, traffic safety, fire prevention and rescue services, while relevant agencies will oversee infrastructure, lighting, drainage, food safety and environmental conditions.

Cultural and artistic performances will also be organised, while businesses, cooperatives and producers of One Commune One Product (OCOP) goods will be encouraged to showcase and sell their products.

The city said the pilot scheme aims to create a new night-time shopping, dining and entertainment space, make better use of public areas and local cultural assets, and help boost tourism, trade and the local economy.
