Can Tho announces no-fly, restricted zones for drones

Can Tho authorities have announced no-fly and restricted zones for drones and other unmanned aircraft, while warning residents against using flying devices of unknown origin.

The city People's Committee said on September 16 that agencies and local authorities had been instructed to publicise the coordinates and boundaries of no-fly and restricted zones, as well as designated take-off and landing areas for unmanned and ultralight aircraft.

Authorities in Thoi Lai, Truong Long, Truong Long Tay, Thoi An Dong and Dong Thuan wards and communes were tasked with informing residents about the designated areas.

Residents were also urged not to manufacture, trade, buy, store or use unmanned aircraft and other flying devices of unknown origin.

The city warned against activities that could endanger aviation at Can Tho International Airport, including flying drones or UAVs into no-fly or restricted zones, burning rice straw, pointing lasers or high-powered lights, and flying large kites or illuminated kites near the airport.

The move followed a September 9 notice from Regiment 917 under Division 370 of the Air Defence-Air Force Service, which identified no-fly and restricted zones and designated take-off and landing areas using specific coordinates in Can Tho and neighbouring areas.
