Hanoi Sewerage One Member Limited Liability Company said that by 6 am on September 15, prolonged heavy rain had caused flooding on many roads and streets across the city, disrupting travel.
Flooding and waterlogging were recorded on Dam Quang Trung, Co Linh and Vinh Hung roads, as well as on National Highway 6 through Quyet Thang road.
On Thang Long Boulevard, water also rose at several pedestrian underpasses.
According to compiled data from 10 pm on September 14 to 6 am on September 15, rainfall in many parts of Hanoi reached very high levels.

Yen So recorded the highest rainfall, at 270mm.
Several other areas also recorded more than 150mm of rain, including Hai Ba Trung with 219mm, Trieu Khuc - Thanh Liet with 175mm, the Linh Dam lake pumping station area in Hoang Liet with 162mm, Nguyen Khuyen - Van Mieu with 158mm, Nguyen Chinh - Hoang Mai with 157mm and Phung Hung - Hoan Kiem with 156mm.

Intense rainfall over a short period overwhelmed drainage systems in some areas, leaving many roads flooded or waterlogged on the morning of September 15.
According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on the night of September 14 and in the early hours of September 15, southern Lao Cai, Son La, the northern delta, Phu Tho, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An saw moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, with some places experiencing very heavy rain.
Notably, Haiphong City, Hung Yen, Hanoi, southern Phu Tho, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An recorded heavy to very heavy rainfall.

The meteorological agency forecast that from September 15 to the end of September 16, heavy rain would continue to cover many provinces and cities in northern Vietnam and the north-central region.
Southern Phu Tho, Hung Yen, Ninh Binh and Thanh Hoa are forecast to see the heaviest rain, with totals of 150-250mm and more than 350mm in some places. Southern Lao Cai, Son La, northern Phu Tho, Hanoi, Haiphong, Bac Ninh and Nghe An are expected to see heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms, with totals of 80-150mm and more than 250mm in isolated areas.
The agency warned that this spell of rain could bring extremely intense downpours, with more than 100mm falling within three hours, potentially causing flooding in low-lying areas, urban districts and industrial parks. Mountainous areas face the risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, as well as landslides on steep slopes.
From the night of September 16, heavy rain in northern Vietnam, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An is forecast to gradually ease.
