The Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Centre forecast cloudy conditions across HCM City and other southern localities on September 15, with scattered showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the late afternoon and evening.
Temperatures are expected to range from 24-27 degrees Celsius at night to 31-34 degrees during the day, with some areas exceeding 34 degrees.
Forecasters said the intertropical convergence zone that has brought widespread rain is shifting northwards and weakening, while a subtropical high is expected to increasingly influence weather across southern Vietnam.
As a result, rainfall is forecast to ease on September 15-16, with more sunshine during the day. Showers will mainly occur in the afternoon and evening, while heavy rain will become less widespread.
Rain is likely to remain concentrated along the western coast, northern Tay Ninh, Dong Nai and western Lam Dong before increasing again around September 17.
Meanwhile, daily peak water levels at most stations along the Saigon River are expected to fall slowly over the next few days before declining more rapidly. High tides at alert levels 1-2 could persist through September 16.
Forecasters warned of thunderstorms accompanied by whirlwinds, lightning and strong gusts. Rain combined with high tides could cause flooding in low-lying and riverside areas, disrupting traffic and daily life.
