The incident occurred shortly after 2 pm on Saturday near the eastern end of Nguyen Van Troi Bridge, according to witnesses.
A security guard at the scene said a sudden burst of strong wind swept in from the Han River and lifted an inflatable play structure high into the air. The winds also toppled decorative lighting poles and damaged equipment at a nearby recreational area.
Footage recorded by residents showed rain falling in the area as strong winds churned the surface of the Han River before moving ashore and lifting the inflatable structure.
The winds then moved towards Tran Thi Ly Bridge, making it difficult for people to travel across the bridge.
By Sunday morning, an inflatable structure at the recreational area had been damaged and at least three lighting poles had been knocked down. A canopy was bent and several decorative items were also damaged.
Some of the affected areas had been cleared to ensure public safety.
Authorities in Ngu Hanh Son and An Hai wards said relevant agencies would inspect the area to determine whether a whirlwind had caused the damage.
Danang recorded widespread rainfall of 50-150mm from September 12 to 13, according to regional hydro-meteorological authorities. Coastal plains and southwestern mountainous areas received 150-300mm, while Cau Lau recorded 362.6mm.
Rain eased on Sunday, with scattered showers forecast across the city and rainfall of 10-30mm, although some areas could receive more than 50mm.
Danang authorities said weather and natural hazards were expected to remain complex through the end of 2026 and had instructed agencies and local authorities to step up preparedness.
