Authorities in Quang Tri said on September 13 that widespread rainfall associated with a tropical depression had caused severe flooding across several areas of Lao Bao Commune.

As of 9 am, 72 homes had been flooded. During the early hours of the morning, local authorities, military units and police evacuated 142 households, comprising nearly 500 people, to safer locations.
Officials said emergency teams had also moved property out of vulnerable areas and erected barriers at submerged bridges and spillways to prevent residents from crossing dangerous floodwaters.
Heavy rain pushed rivers and streams above warning levels, flooding low-water crossings and cutting off several roads, including sections of National Highway 15D and provincial routes 588 and 586.

The weather also triggered a major landslide on the road linking Truong Xuan and Truong Son communes, forcing authorities to close the route.
Along the coast, large waves battered My Thuy Commune, damaging concrete roads, public infrastructure and coastal lighting systems. Local officials reported shoreline erosion of between 6m and 10m in some areas.

Provincial disaster management authorities have instructed local governments to maintain emergency response forces, install warning signs in flooded zones and advise residents against travelling through dangerous areas.
