Four orphaned siblings receive new home built with community support

Four orphaned siblings in Lam Dong have moved into a new home funded by community donations, marking a fresh start after years of hardship and uncertainty.

Four orphaned siblings in Tan Hoi Commune, Lam Dong Province, officially received a new home on September 12 during a handover ceremony organised by Dantri Newspaper, the Lam Dong Sponsorship Association and local authorities.

Speaking at the event, Dantri Editor-in-Chief Pham Tuan Anh said the new house would provide the children with a stable foundation for a brighter future.

“This new home represents a new beginning. We hope the children will continue striving in life, supporting one another and growing into responsible citizens,” he said.

Ha Thi My Huong, 16, used to live with her three siblings aged 12, 9 and 5 in a borrowed, dilapidated house in Tan Hoi Commune. Her father, Ha Van Ot, died at the age of 38 in a traffic accident three years ago while returning from construction work. Her mother, Nguyen Thi Yen Ha, 44, had relied on low-paid farm jobs to support the family, forcing Huong to leave school to help care for her younger siblings.

In late 2025, her mother left home. Since then, Huong has become the sole provider, earning about VND 150,000 (USD 5.80) per day from manual work in local vegetable gardens.

The family’s story attracted widespread public attention after being featured by Dantri on March 26, 2026. Within just 34 hours of publication, readers donated more than VND 4.5 billion (about USD 172,000) to support Ha Thi My Huong and her three siblings.

Ha Thi Hanh, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Lam Dong Province, thanked Dantri for helping connect donors with disadvantaged families across the province.

Visibly emotional, Ha Thi My Huong said the day would remain unforgettable for the siblings.

“From now on, we have a new home. We no longer have to worry about rain and wind. We are deeply grateful to Dantri, local authorities and all the benefactors who helped us,” she said.
