HCM City opens new child mental health facility

HCM City has opened a new child mental health facility to address years of inadequate infrastructure and rising demand for specialist care.

HCM City Psychiatric Hospital opened its third facility at 957 Ba Thang Hai Street in Minh Phung Ward on Sept. 11, according to Tang Chi Thuong, director of the city's Department of Health.

The new site replaces a facility at 165B Phan Dang Luu Street, which had operated for years with limited space, cramped consultation rooms and ageing infrastructure despite growing demand for mental health assessment, counselling and intervention for children.

The new facility will provide improved conditions for assessment, counselling, treatment and follow-up care for children with psychological, behavioural and psychiatric conditions.

It is also designed to provide a more child-friendly environment, reducing the sense of being in a hospital and helping children and their families engage more comfortably with healthcare professionals.

The city's health department said children's mental health was becoming an increasing concern amid academic pressure, rapid changes in the digital environment and shifts in family and social structures.
