The Ministry of Health has issued Circular 34/2026 guiding the implementation of the 2026-2035 national target programme on healthcare, population and development.
Under the circular, all pupils from preschool through high school will be eligible for health checks, screening, diagnosis and treatment advice for school-related conditions.
General health checks will begin in 2026, allowing schools and relevant agencies to monitor pupils' health and provide appropriate care.
From 2028, screening will cover five groups of conditions: overweight and obesity, refractive errors, spinal curvature, oral diseases and mental health disorders.
The screenings may be combined with health checks at the beginning of the school year or regular student health examinations to avoid multiple separate examinations.
At the national level, the Health Ministry's Department of Disease Prevention will coordinate with the Department of Medical Services Administration to guide, monitor and evaluate the programme.
Local authorities will oversee health checks and screening, provide treatment advice and arrange referrals where necessary.
