Rescue ship safely tows fishing boat carrying 21 fishermen to Phu Quy

A Vietnamese fisheries surveillance vessel has safely towed a disabled fishing boat carrying 21 fishermen to Phu Quy Island after hours of operation in rough seas.

The KN 467 fisheries surveillance vessel brought fishing boat LĐ95888-TS and its 21 fishermen safely into port on Phu Quy Island, Lam Dong Province, on September 9 after several hours of towing in heavy seas.

The fishing boat had suffered an engine failure and lost the ability to manoeuvre while operating about 126 nautical miles east-north-east of Phu Quy. At the time, the sea was experiencing south-westerly winds at force 5-6, with waves reaching 3-4 metres, making the rescue operation difficult.

After receiving an emergency call, KN 467 quickly headed to the location of the stricken vessel, reached the fishing boat and began towing it towards Phu Quy.

Because of the rough conditions, the rescue team was unable to board the fishing boat to provide direct assistance. Throughout the operation, KN 467 maintained continuous communication with the vessel, closely monitored the situation and provided support to all 21 fishermen.
