The Southern Regional Hydro-Meteorological Centre forecast that on September 8, Ho Chi Minh City and provinces and cities across southern Vietnam will see spells of sunshine. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in the late afternoon, evening and overnight.
Lowest temperatures will generally range from 24 to 27 degrees Celsius, while highs will be between 31 and 34 degrees Celsius, with some places exceeding 34 degrees Celsius.
Earlier, on the afternoon of September 7, many areas in southern Vietnam saw showers and thunderstorms. Rainfall was commonly 5-20mm, with some places recording more than 25mm.

According to the meteorological agency, rainfall in Ho Chi Minh City and southern Vietnam is expected to increase in both coverage and intensity from September 9. Many areas could see moderate to heavy rain.
The agency said this is due to a weakening low-pressure trough with its axis at around 19-22 degrees north latitude. From September 9, a tropical convergence zone will form with its axis at around 18-21 degrees north latitude before gradually shifting southwards. At the same time, the south-westerly monsoon is expected to strengthen from a moderate state.
Under the influence of these weather patterns, Ho Chi Minh City is forecast to experience moderate, heavy and very heavy rain from the night of September 9 to September 12. Total rainfall is expected to range from 150mm to 250mm, with some places receiving more than 250mm.
The meteorological agency warned that during periods of heavy rain, residents should guard against whirlwinds, lightning and strong gusts. Heavy rain over a short period could also trigger flooding in low-lying areas, disrupting traffic and daily life.
