Lang Son studies first glass bridge across Ky Cung River

Authorities in Lang Son are studying plans for the province’s first glass bridge across the Ky Cung River, a project aimed at boosting tourism and the night-time economy.

Lang Son Party Secretary Hoang Quoc Khanh and Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Canh Toan joined local officials on September 3 to inspect potential sites for the proposed glass bridge.

According to the provincial Department of Construction, four options have been proposed after assessing topography, scenery, river width, transport links, accessibility and parking capacity.

Option four is considered the most favourable. The site is located about 400 metres upstream from Dong Kinh Bridge and roughly 120 metres downstream from the under-construction Cua Nam Bridge. The river is about 75 metres wide at this point.

The proposed location is close to the city's pedestrian street and several cultural and spiritual landmarks, allowing it to be integrated into a broader tourism circuit in the urban centre.

Officials expect the bridge to become a new tourism attraction, helping to unlock riverside space, stimulate services and support the development of the night-time economy.

Experts also noted that the site could help disperse visitor flows and reduce pressure on central urban infrastructure during festivals and peak travel periods.

Following the survey, Hoang Quoc Khanh instructed the Department of Construction to further compare the advantages and disadvantages of all four options and carefully assess natural conditions, landscape impacts, urban planning considerations and related factors before recommending a final location.

The bridge design must ensure safety, feasibility and harmony with the surrounding landscape of the Ky Cung River.

Relevant agencies have also been tasked with studying how the project could be integrated with transport infrastructure, parking facilities, pedestrian areas and nearby architectural works to create a new landmark for Lang Son centre area.

The project remains in the survey and feasibility study stage. Details on its scale, investment cost and implementation timeline have not yet been announced.
