Nha Trang installs new seafront railings

Nha Trang is replacing nearly 2 km of ageing railings along its beachfront with a new reinforced-concrete system designed to improve safety and the appearance of the coastal area.

According to Nguyen Thanh Hien, director of the Khanh Hoa Development Project Management Board, on September 3 that contractors were accelerating work along Pham Van Dong Street in Bac Nha Trang Ward, with completion targeted for December.

The new railings will use marine-grade reinforced concrete, granite, polished stone and stainless steel. Posts will be spaced three metres apart, with shaped concrete sections between them for safety and aesthetics.

The project, which also includes repairs to damaged sections of retaining walls and steps, is estimated to cost over VND 13.7 billion (USD 521,000).

Work is being carried out section by section, with some workers demolishing damaged old railings while others install the new system.

Local resident Le Tien Duc said work had progressed quickly and the new design was distinctive. He urged contractors to maintain the pace as the pavement along the seafront is widely used by residents for exercise and relaxation and by tourists for taking photos.

“Many people come here in the morning and afternoon to exercise and relax. Prolonged construction would affect visitors, so I hope the project can be completed soon,” Duc said.

The old railings were built over a decade ago and have deteriorated after years of exposure to large waves during the rainy season, with some sections cracked and rusting reinforcement bars exposed.

Residents have welcomed the upgrade but called for durable materials capable of withstanding strong waves and saltwater corrosion to prevent the new railings from deteriorating within a few years.
