Ho Chi Minh City earns nearly USD 196 million from holiday tourism

Ho Chi Minh City generated an estimated VND 4.9 trillion (USD196 million) in tourism revenue during the five-day National Day holiday as visitor numbers surged across key destinations.

This year's National Day holiday lasted five days, from August 29 to September 2. According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, the city welcomed an estimated 1.65 million domestic visitors and 62,000 international arrivals during the period. Total tourism revenue was estimated at VND4.9 trillion (USD196 million).

Accommodation providers served around 182,500 guests, including 178,000 domestic travellers and 4,500 international visitors. Average room occupancy reached approximately 61 per cent.

Vung Tau crowded with visitors, Con Dao sees sharp growth

Beyond the city centre, several tourism destinations across Ho Chi Minh City also experienced strong growth in visitor numbers. In the coastal area of Vung Tau, beach resorts and attractions saw a significant influx of tourists during the first days of the holiday.

On August 30 alone, local beaches welcomed around 55,000 visitors, 3.5 times higher than the previous day.

A range of events helped attract tourists to Vung Tau, including a running race, a food festival and a shopping fair featuring more than 100 stalls. The activities are being held from August 28 to September 5 at Bai Sau Park.

Meanwhile, Con Dao recorded a 52.69 per cent increase in visitor arrivals compared with the same period last year, while international tourist numbers rose by 60.71 per cent. Tourism revenue on the island increased by 56.61 per cent.

Favourable weather conditions allowed visitors to explore historical sites, enjoy beach activities and experience the island's forest and marine ecotourism attractions.
