“Giant national flag in Ca Mau sets Vietnam record

A national flag covering over 2,000 square metres has been recognised as Vietnam's largest fabric national flag during a National Day ceremony in the southernmost province of Ca Mau.

Nearly 1,500 people attended a flag-raising ceremony at the Hanoi Flag Tower at Ca Mau Cape on September 2 to mark the 81st anniversary of Vietnam's National Day.

The flag was officially recognised as the country's largest national flag made of fabric. Made from highly durable material, it covers 2,025 square metres, measuring 60 metres long and 33.75 metres wide, and weighs about 320 kg.

Organisers said the flag has appeared at several major events during a nationwide journey running from 2025 to 2027, including the Sen Village Festival in Nghe An Province and National Day celebrations in Hanoi.

Its appearance at Ca Mau Cape on September 2 marked another stop on the journey, which is taking the flag to historical and cultural sites across the country.

After completing the nationwide tour in late 2027, the flag will be donated to Ca Mau Province and displayed at Ca Mau Cape National Park for residents and visitors.

Pham Thanh Dat, a high school teacher in Ca Mau, said he was proud to help raise the record-setting flag, describing the ceremony as one of the most memorable he had attended.
