The Southern Power Project Management Board and An Giang Power Company, in coordination with other agencies, have successfully energised the 110kV Phu Quoc-North Phu Quoc transmission line.
The project follows the recent completion of the 220kV Phu Quoc substation and the 110kV Phu Quoc-South Phu Quoc transmission line.
The three projects, with combined investment of nearly VND 2.165 trillion, were developed by Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC) to strengthen the island's electricity infrastructure as demand grows and preparations for APEC 2027 accelerate.
The 110kV Phu Quoc-North Phu Quoc line cost nearly VND 353 billion and comprises a 20.7-km double-circuit transmission line with 75 towers.
The 110kV Phu Quoc-South Phu Quoc line, costing VND 934 billion, spans 20 km with two circuits and 79 towers, including a 2.7-km underground cable section.
Meanwhile, the 220kV Phu Quoc substation, costing over VND 877 billion, is equipped with two 250MVA transformers and connected by a 19-km double-circuit 220kV transmission line, including 2.7 km of underground cable.
EVNSPC Deputy General Director Dao Hoa Binh said resources had been concentrated on accelerating construction to ensure the projects were completed on schedule.
Contractors also used drones to deploy pilot lines during cable installation, helping overcome difficulties posed by dense forests and privately owned land while significantly reducing construction time.
With all three projects operational, Phu Quoc's total electricity supply capacity will rise to 315MVA and can be expanded to 500MVA.
The projects will also create a looped grid capable of meeting the N-1 reliability standard, strengthening electricity supply across the island and supporting preparations for APEC 2027.
