
The decorative artistic lighting system around Hoan Kiem Lake was completed in time for the 81st anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The lighting has been arranged in harmony with the water, trees and architectural works, creating a visual focal point while highlighting the area’s historical and cultural value.

The lighting concept was designed as a continuous journey through the space around Hoan Kiem Lake.

The bands of light run along the roads encircling Hoan Kiem Lake, forming a unified whole rather than a series of disconnected illuminated points.

Each area is awakened to a different degree, adding depth to the landscape without diminishing the lake’s natural character.

Light from a banyan tree area is directed towards Turtle Tower in the middle of the lake, before continuing to Ngoc Son Temple. Warm tones were chosen to evoke a sense of antiquity, stillness and familiarity, in keeping with the character of a heritage space in the heart of the city.

For many people, a weekend evening is not only a chance to stroll around Hoan Kiem Lake but also an opportunity to preserve fond family memories amid the capital’s shimmering lights.

From Ngoc Son Temple, the lighting effects continue to link with The Huc Bridge, Hoa Phong Tower, Ba Kieu Temple and Pen Tower. These landmarks are not separated from the landscape but placed within a single, coherent lighting composition.

Alongside highlighting heritage structures, the project has also introduced interactive lighting technology to leisure and entertainment areas on the pedestrian streets around Hoan Kiem Lake.

A Gobo Mapping lighting system is being used to project visual imagery onto the street space.

The family of Ngo Dang Trac, from Bo De Ward, took their two-year-old son for a walk around Hoan Kiem Lake during the holiday. The family said they were delighted by the new lighting space, while the boy remained curious about the vivid effects beneath his feet.

In the interactive mapping areas in particular, light is no longer simply a means of illumination. The movement of pedestrians can generate animated visual effects on the pavement.

Each footstep therefore becomes part of the experience. People do not simply pass through the illuminated space but can interact with it directly, turning stretches of the pedestrian zone into more vivid and immersive public areas.
