Ca Mau begins work on rice-themed park

Ca Mau has launched construction of a new public park featuring a landmark sculpture of three rice grains, celebrating the region's agricultural heritage.

Authorities in Ca Mau Province broke ground on the Ba hat lua (Three rice grains) Park project in Vinh Loi Commune on the morning of August 29.

The park will be built on an area of nearly 1.5 hectares and will include technical infrastructure such as internal roads and walkways, power supply and drainage systems, landscaped greenery, a decorative lake, an outdoor performance stage and supporting facilities.

The project has an estimated investment of more than VND 21 billion (about USD 805,000).

The architectural and cultural centrepiece of the park will be a monument honouring wet-rice cultivation, featuring three rice grains arranged vertically. Each grain will represent a different stage of growth, symbolising the life cycle of the rice plant and the development of rice farming over time.

The upward-reaching design is also intended to convey the aspirations of Ca Mau residents as the province enters a new phase of development.

Ngo Vu Thang, vice-chairman of the Ca Mau Province People's Committee, said the symbolism carried particular significance for Ca Mau, the country's southernmost province, where three sides border the sea and where land reclamation, salinity and acid sulphate soils historically posed major challenges to agricultural development.

He said the project was not only a tribute to the familiar image of the rice grain but also an expression of gratitude to generations of farmers and a celebration of the enduring values of Vietnamese agriculture and rice-growing civilisation.

According to provincial authorities, the park will serve as an open public space for recreation, relaxation, physical exercise, cultural activities and community events for residents of Vinh Loi Commune and neighbouring areas.
