According to initial information, on August 27, a group of young people travelled to a fish raft on the Dong Nai River in Bao Thuan Commune for leisure. Later that afternoon, the group boarded a small boat to leave the raft and return to shore.

As the boat reached deep water, it suddenly sank, and two people were swept away and went missing.
After receiving the report, Bao Thuan Commune authorities deployed rescue teams to the scene to search for the victims. By 10 pm on August 27, rescue teams had recovered the body of one victim and brought it ashore.
"Authorities are continuing the search for the remaining victim," a Bao Thuan Commune leader said.
