Thanh Hoa Provincial Police Department said on August 28 that they had received a Javan pangolin, scientifically known as Manis javanica, after local residents found it at Van Phu Cemetery in Van Dai Village, Thieu Trung Commune, and voluntarily handed it over.
Immediately after receiving the animal, police and local authorities contacted the management board of Ben En National Park to complete the handover procedures in line with regulations.

According to the Thanh Hoa Provincial Police Department, the Javan pangolin is a wild species of high conservation value and is facing a serious decline because of illegal hunting and trade. The fact that local residents found the pangolin and voluntarily handed it over to the authorities reflects a positive shift in public awareness and compliance with the law.
Police urged the public not to hunt, keep, trade, transport or use wild animals without authorisation, particularly rare and endangered species, in any form.
