Maritime authorities announced on August 25 that all passenger ferry and boat routes serving islands in An Giang Province have been temporarily halted as adverse weather conditions continue to affect the region.
According to the Kien Giang Maritime Port Authority, deteriorating weather linked to the southwest monsoon has generated high waves and strong winds, prompting operators to suspend services to ensure passenger safety.
The affected routes include services between Rach Gia and Nam Du, Lai Son and Phu Quoc, as well as routes connecting Ha Tien with Phu Quoc and Tien Hai. All services in both directions were suspended on August 25 pending further notice.
Operators said schedules for August 26 would be announced in subsequent updates.
Passengers who have paid deposits or purchased tickets in full for cancelled sailings will be eligible for refunds or may exchange their tickets for the next available service once operations resume.
According to the An Giang Hydrometeorological Station, inland areas of An Giang are expected to experience scattered showers and thunderstorms over the next 24 hours, with intermittent sunshine during the day.
Winds are forecast to blow from the west and southwest at force 3, occasionally strengthening to force 4. Forecasters warned of possible whirlwinds, lightning and strong gusts during thunderstorms.
At sea, conditions are expected to remain unsettled, with cloudy skies, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. West to southwest winds are forecast at force 4 to 5, while wave heights are expected to range from 0.75m to 2m, producing slightly rough seas.
Meteorologists also warned of the risk of whirlwinds, lightning and gusts reaching force 6 to 7 in storm-affected areas.
