At about 8 pm on August 21, border guards and other law enforcement officers were patrolling an area about 1.5km from DT 839 road in My Thanh Dong Village, Dong Thanh Commune, when they spotted a car showing suspicious signs.

Officers ordered the driver, a 22-year-old resident of Dong Thanh Commune, to stop for inspection.
The man stopped the vehicle and fled on foot after opening the door when he saw the authorities, but was quickly apprehended.
A search of the car uncovered 14,900 packs of illegally imported cigarettes, according to the authorities.
Officers made a record of the man's arrest in the act and seized the cigarettes and vehicle as evidence for further investigation.
