Can Tho to host Vietnam International Rice Festival in November

Can Tho will host the second Vietnam International Rice Industry Festival from November 23-26, with more than 500 booths showcasing greener, higher-value rice production.

The festival, themed 'Vietnamese Green Rice - Reaching the World,' aims to promote the Mekong Delta’s rice heritage while highlighting Vietnam’s role in rice production and global food security.

The event will showcase the rice value chain, from low-emission and mechanised farming to digital agriculture, processing and exports. Displays will include ST24 and ST25 rice, OCOP products, digital fields, integrated rice-shrimp-fruit farming and modern production technologies.

A major exhibition, 'The Rice Journey from Past to Future,' will trace the development of Vietnamese rice cultivation from traditional farming to high-tech agriculture.

The festival will also feature seminars on digital technology, greenhouse gas reduction, branding, local marketing and strategies for developing the Mekong Delta rice industry.

High-tech displays will introduce artificial intelligence, blockchain, automation and next-generation agricultural equipment, along with solutions for reducing emissions and accelerating digital transformation.

The event will also highlight Vietnam’s one-million-hectare project for high-quality, low-emission rice cultivation in the Mekong Delta, which authorities see as a key model for greener agricultural growth.

Beyond trade and technology, visitors will be able to experience southern Vietnam’s wet-rice culture through traditional rice milling and pounding, rice-based cake making, folk games, don ca tai tu music and traditional instruments.

Other activities will include visits to Can Tho tourist attractions, Khmer boat races and floating markets.

The festival is also intended to connect businesses, investors, scientists and farmers, expand export markets and promote international cooperation and technology transfer.

Can Tho has 710,000-718,000 hectares under rice cultivation annually, producing about 4.7 million tonnes. The festival is expected to reinforce the city’s role as a major Mekong Delta rice production hub and expand market links.
