Hanoi will hold the second Thang Long-Hanoi Festival from September 11 to 20, featuring traditional arts, technology, fashion and craft experiences across five cultural venues.

Under the theme ‘Heritage Flow’, the festival aims to bring cultural heritage into contemporary life through art and creative activities.

Events will take place at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, the Temple of Literature, Hanoi Museum, Bat Trang Commune and Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square.

Le Thi Anh Mai, deputy director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, said the inaugural festival in 2025 featured more than 30 cultural, arts and tourism activities, attracting nearly 200,000 visitors and reaching almost one million people on social media.

She said the city plans to make the festival an annual event and gradually develop it into a cultural brand for the capital.

This year’s festival will encourage greater participation from local communities, artisans, artists and creative groups, while combining traditional and contemporary elements and making greater use of technology and interactive experiences.

The festival will open at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel on September 11 with an arts programme expected to draw about 5,000 domestic and international guests.

An international arts programme themed ‘Thang Long-Hanoi, a Bridge of Heritage’ will be held at the citadel on September 12, followed by the youth-oriented ‘MOVE Fest’ on September 13.

From September 11 to 20, the Temple of Literature will host exhibitions and activities showcasing heritage, traditional crafts and performing arts.

Hanoi Museum will stage exhibitions and performances of intangible cultural heritage from September 11 through the end of 2026.

In Bat Trang, the ‘Sounds of Ceramics’ programme on September 19 will use ceramic materials and instruments to tell the pottery village’s story through contemporary art.

The same day, ‘The Colour of Hanoi’ fashion show will bring together prominent designers, incorporating materials associated with the capital, including silk, bamboo and rattan, into contemporary designs.

The festival will close on September 20 at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square with a programme celebrating Hanoi’s heritage and creativity.

Organisers hope the festival will connect heritage with art, fashion, technology and tourism, while promoting Hanoi’s cultural industries and strengthening the capital’s cultural identity.
