
Thousands of football fans in Ho Chi Minh City erupted in celebration on August 19 after Vietnam defeated Malaysia 2-0 in the second leg of their ASEAN Cup 2026 semi-final at My Dinh National Stadium.

The victory sealed a 4-0 aggregate win for Vietnam, sparking jubilant scenes among supporters gathered across the southern city.


Large crowds on Nguyen Hue Walking Street cheered as striker Xuan Son scored twice to send Vietnam into the final. Many fans brought horns, banners and national flags, creating a carnival-like atmosphere in the city centre.


Thousands of supporters flocked to the pedestrian boulevard dressed in red-and-yellow national colours, waving flags and beating drums while watching the match on giant outdoor screens.

A foreign tourist also joined in supporting the Vietnam national team.

Five LED screens had been installed along Nguyen Hue Walking Street to accommodate football fans in Ho Chi Minh City.

Foreign visitors also joined the celebrations, with some chanting “Vietnam” alongside local supporters as the final whistle confirmed the result.
Vietnam will face Thailand in the ASEAN Cup 2026 final. The first leg will be played at Rajamangala Stadium on August 22, with the return leg taking place four days later at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi.
