Gia Lai invests VND 2.66 trillion in coastal transport corridor

Gia Lai Province has started two transport projects worth VND 2.66 trillion (USD 100 million), aimed at improving connectivity with Quy Nhon Port and developing its coastal economic corridor.

The provincial People's Committee launched the two projects on August 19. They have a combined length of about 40km and are funded by World Bank loans and the province's counterpart funding.

Both projects are scheduled for completion in August 2028.

The first project is a 6.35km road connecting National Highway 19C with Quy Nhon Port. The road will have four to six lanes, with a roadbed 24-40 metres wide, and will run through Tuy Phuoc Commune, Quy Nhon Bac Ward and Quy Nhon Dong Ward.

The second is the 33.65km DT.639 coastal road, which will have two to four lanes and a roadbed 12-20.5 metres wide. It will pass through An Luong, Phu My Dong and Phu My Bac communes and Hoai Nhon Dong Ward.

Duong Mah Tiep, vice-chairman of the Gia Lai People's Committee, said the projects would do more than add new transport routes, as they would also expand the province's development space and create new room and momentum for economic growth.

Once completed, the roads are expected to improve connections between different areas, shorten travel times, facilitate goods transportation and reduce logistics costs.

The projects are also expected to strengthen the province's competitiveness, attract investment and support production and business activities.

They are expected to unlock the potential of land along the routes, particularly in areas with advantages in urban development, trade, services and tourism.

A continuous coastal transport corridor would also strengthen regional connectivity and provide fresh momentum for the development of the marine economy, tourism and fisheries.
