Van Tuong Commune police said on August 18 that a 30-year-old man from Tho Phong Commune and his wife were caught selling illegally imported cigarettes to local grocery stores.

Police earlier spotted the husband driving a truck to deliver goods to shops in Van Tuong. A search of the vehicle uncovered more than 2,000 packs of foreign-made cigarettes without invoices or supporting documents.
Van Tuong police and Quang Ngai economic crime investigators subsequently searched the couple's warehouse in Tho Phong, where tens of thousands more cigarette packs were found.
More than 50,000 packs of smuggled cigarettes worth an estimated VND 2 billion were seized in total.
The case has been transferred to the Quang Ngai police investigation agency for further investigation.
