Khanh Hoa probes video of foreign girl riding motorbike in Nha Trang

Police in Khanh Hoa Province are investigating the owner of a motorbike allegedly ridden by a foreign girl, believed to be about 10, while carrying an older man on a busy road in Nha Trang.

Khanh Hoa Provincial Police Department said on August 17 that they were verifying information about the vehicle owner after a video of the incident was posted online.

The more than 20-second clip shows the girl riding a motorbike along Pham Van Dong Street, with an older man sitting behind her.

The girl is believed to be about 10 years old and is a foreign national.

Many people commenting on the video criticised the decision to allow a child who is below the legal age and does not meet the requirements to ride a motorbike on a busy road. Some called on authorities to investigate the incident and take action in accordance with regulations.

According to the road traffic police unit, vehicle owners who allow people who do not meet the legal requirements to operate a motorbike can face fines of VND 8-10 million (USD 302-377) for individuals and VND 16-20 million (USD 604-754) for organisations.

Khanh Hoa police previously launched a campaign to inspect foreign nationals' compliance with road safety regulations. The authorities identified 210 violations and collected more than VND 610 million (USD 23,000) in fines for the state budget.
