The Vietnam People's Navy's 129th Naval Brigade, based in Phuoc Thang Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, said on August 17 that personnel aboard Vessel 743 had found and rescued the fisherman.

The man is receiving care from the vessel's military medical team as he recovers.
At about 6 pm on August 16, Vessel 743 was operating about two nautical miles east of the Thang Long oil and gas rig, roughly 80 nautical miles from the coast, when crew members spotted a fisherman drifting in the sea.
The crew quickly approached and launched a rescue operation.
Despite darkness, strong winds and rough seas, the rescue team moved swiftly while taking measures to ensure the man's safety. At about 7 pm, they successfully brought him aboard.
The fisherman was identified as Truong Van Chung, 46, from Tay Yen Commune, An Giang Province.

Initial information indicated that Chung had fallen from a fishing boat on August 12 and had been drifting at sea for four days.
Having gone without food or water for an extended period, Chung was weak, exhausted and distressed. He was also unable to remember which fishing boat he had fallen from.
After bringing him aboard, personnel from Vessel 743 provided first aid, water and food, arranged a place for him to rest and continued to monitor his condition.
