Vietnam household bank deposits hit record USD 424 billion

Household deposits at Vietnamese banks reached a record VND 11.068 quadrillion (USD 424 billion) by the end of June, reflecting continued confidence in the country's banking system.

According to the State Bank of Vietnam, it was the first time household deposits had surpassed VND 11 quadrillion. Deposits increased by nearly VND 242 trillion (USD 9.31 billion) in June alone.

Household deposits were up 7.1 per cent from the end of 2025.

Deposits held by businesses and other economic organisations also reached more than VND 6.37 quadrillion, an increase of more than VND 203 trillion from May and 3.09 per cent higher than at the end of 2025.

In total, the banking system's broad money supply, excluding valuable papers, exceeded VND 20.4 quadrillion in the first half of the year, up 4.99 per cent from the end of 2025.

The continued rise in household deposits comes as investment options in the market have become increasingly diverse. The trend suggests that bank savings remain attractive to a large segment of the population, particularly those prioritising safety and control over their cash flow.

The record deposits also indicate that funds are continuing to remain within the banking system, providing an important source of capital for lending and financing economic activity.
