Hue seeks to build international heritage, music festival brand

Hue Wonderverse Music Fest 2026, an international heritage and music festival, will run from August 30 to September 1, with free admission for residents and tourists during National Day holiday.

Held at the square of the Hue City Sports Centre under the theme City Awakening-Awakening Heritage, the festival will combine Hue's heritage with contemporary music, art and modern performance technology.

The highlights will be two major concerts, Heritage Awakens and Heritage Integration, featuring Vietnamese and international artists.

According to organisers, the line-up includes singers My Tam, Phuong My Chi and MONO, along with several DJs. MONO will also serve as a Heritage Promotion Ambassador, helping showcase a youthful, creative and internationally connected Hue to younger audiences.

Hue Wonderverse Music Fest is planned as an annual international culture and music event from 2026 to 2030, aimed at boosting tourism, cultural industries, the night-time economy and international exchanges.

Tran Huu Thuy Giang, vice chairman of the Hue City People's Committee, said the festival aimed to showcase Hue as a city that preserves its heritage while embracing innovation and global connections through art, technology and music.

Giang said this year's festival would be free and fully privately funded, while ticket sales are planned from 2027 as part of efforts to develop it into an annual cultural event.

This is the first time Hue has developed an annual cultural event as a brand. This year’s three-day festival will feature two nights of Vietnamese and international music with free admission, with ticket sales to be introduced from 2027, Giang added.

Popular singers will perform on the festival's opening night.

Alongside music performances, the festival will feature spaces dedicated to cultural experiences, creativity, technology and food, as well as community activities.

The festival will introduce Long Ma, a mythical dragon-horse inspired by Hue culture, as its official mascot, with the digital-art figure expected to become a symbol of future editions.

Combining heritage, art, technology and international collaboration, the festival aims to promote Hue, boost its cultural industries and build an international festival brand.
