The railings along Pham Van Dong Street in Bac Nha Trang Ward have recently been dismantled as part of an upgrade project.
Local authorities said the railings were built more than 10 years ago and had deteriorated after years of exposure to large waves, particularly during the rainy season. Concrete had peeled away in several sections, exposing rusted steel reinforcement.
Nguyen Van Vui, a local resident, said the railings appeared relatively intact at first glance but showed significant deterioration on the seaward side. He called for more durable materials capable of withstanding waves and saltwater corrosion.
Nguyen Thanh Hien, director of the Khanh Hoa Development Project Management Board, the project's investor, said the upgrade had been approved by the former Nha Trang city administration in 2021-2022 but was delayed for several reasons.
The project was transferred to the provincial project management board in 2025 for implementation.
Under the approved design, the existing railings will be completely removed and replaced, while damaged sections of retaining structures and steps will also be repaired.
The new railings will use reinforced concrete designed for the marine environment, combined with granite, polished stone and stainless-steel details.
Posts will be spaced three metres apart, with shaped reinforced-concrete sections installed between them to improve safety and appearance along the beachfront.
The project is estimated to cost more than VND 13.7 billion (USD 521,000) and is scheduled for completion in December.
