The 2.28-hectare complex was inaugurated to mark the 71st anniversary of Haiphong's Liberation Day and the 2026 Red Flamboyant Festival.
The project involved restoring and upgrading the grounds, entrance gate, memorial, square and pier, which also includes an area for floating lanterns.
The complex features a relief depicting General Vo Nguyen Giap with naval forces and a replica of the unnumbered vessels used to transport supplies during wartime.
Other facilities include a memorial temple, a site management building, a coastal stone embankment, drainage and electrical systems, green spaces and landscaped areas.
Concrete piles remaining at the site are preserved as historical evidence of the unnumbered vessels that once departed from the wharf.
Located at the end of the Do Son Peninsula, the complex is surrounded by coastal scenery and serves as a site for commemorative, cultural and tourism activities.
Veterans, relatives of fallen soldiers and visitors from across the country come to K15 Wharf to pay tribute to those who died during wartime.
K15 Wharf lies at the foot of Nghinh Phong Hill, with the sea in front and hills behind, a location that provided cover for covert operations.
Over 14 years, more than 1,800 voyages departed as part of the maritime supply route, transporting more than 150,000 tonnes of weapons and supplies as well as tens of thousands of personnel to southern Vietnam.
K15 Wharf was designated a national historical site in 2008. In 2024, it became part of the Ho Chi Minh Trail at Sea historical complex, which was granted special national relic status.
The site receives about 8,000 visitors a year, many of them school and university groups learning about its history, according to Do Son Ward's Culture and Social Affairs Division.
