Missing swimmer found dead 10 km from Vung Tau beach

The body of a 20-year-old man who went missing while swimming off Vung Tau was found more than 10 kilometres from where he disappeared.

The victim from Ho Chi Minh City, was found at around 10.30 am on August 12 in waters off Doi Nhai in Phuoc Thang Ward.

Local residents brought the body ashore and alerted authorities, who contacted the family for identification. The body was later confirmed to be that of the missing swimmer.

He had gone swimming with a friend at Bai Sau beach in Vung Tau on the afternoon of August 11. Shortly after 5 pm, he was swept away from shore and disappeared despite calls for help.

Fire and rescue police, local police and the SOS Vung Tau Club launched an overnight search, with teams deployed across the coastal area.

The search area was expanded on Wednesday morning with the use of drones.

Authorities were completing procedures to hand over the victim's body to his family.
