Tan Thanh Commune authorities have ordered relevant agencies to step up inspections of inland waterway vessels and ensure safe transport for visitors to the Ke Ga Lighthouse historical and architectural site.
Vessels must meet registration, inspection and safety requirements before carrying passengers. Each trip will be closely monitored, with passenger numbers limited to no more than 50 per cent of a vessel's designed capacity.
For boats designed to carry 20 passengers, the maximum will be 10 people per trip due to the capacity of local rescue services.
Tan Thanh Border Guard Station has been asked to coordinate with relevant agencies to develop measures to ensure safe tourist transport to the lighthouse, while violations of waterway safety regulations will be strictly handled.
Lam Dong authorities have also ordered tighter oversight of inland waterway vessels and tourist canoes operating on rivers, lakes and coastal waters.
Police will increase patrols and inspections of passenger and tourist transport and review search-and-rescue plans to ensure personnel and equipment are ready for emergencies.
Operators on sea routes and at tourist destinations including Phan Thiet-Phu Quy, Hon Tranh and Hon Cau are required to comply with passenger limits and provide life jackets, lifebuoys and other safety equipment.
The measures come as Lam Dong's coastal areas enter the peak rainy and storm season, when strong winds and rough seas frequently affect Phu Quy and surrounding waters.
Authorities said waterway safety and accident prevention would be prioritised as the province seeks to develop marine tourism sustainably.
