According to the authorities, Grab did not allow consumers to choose whether to consent to the use, sharing, disclosure or transfer of their personal information to third parties.

The company was also found to have included prohibited provisions in its standard terms and conditions applied nationwide, while failing to specify when those terms would take effect.

In addition, Grab failed to give advance notice or publicly disclose when it had sponsored influencers to use their images, advice or recommendations to promote commercial activities or encourage consumers to purchase or use products and services.

The company also failed to fully and accurately display customer feedback and review results as required by law, and did not make information about relevant content, mechanisms and policies easily accessible to vulnerable consumers.

The National Competition Commission ordered Grab to stop the violations and proactively review and update its policies and practices to ensure full compliance with consumer protection laws.

According to Grab, the company promptly remedied the violations and paid the fine as required.
