The bridge, a key component of the Tri An Hydropower Plant expansion project, will serve both the transport of heavy equipment for the project and local travel, replacing the long-running Hieu Liem ferry service.
Workers are completing the railings, expansion joints, approach roads and drainage systems, while accelerating roadbed levelling and compaction on the approach linking the bridge to Road DT768.
Construction of the bridge began on December 29, 2024. The structure is about 249.5 metres long and nine metres wide and was built to Grade II road standards, connecting the two banks of the Dong Nai River in Tri An Ward.
The bridge is designed to accommodate oversized and heavy vehicles carrying equipment for the construction and installation of the expanded Tri An Hydropower Plant.
Once operational, the bridge will replace the Hieu Liem ferry, improving travel and freight transport while strengthening connections in areas along the Dong Nai River.
It will also divert public traffic away from the hydropower dam complex, improving safety for both the existing and expanded facilities.
A contractor representative said the bridge railings were expected to be completed this week, followed by asphalt paving and road markings, with the project on track to open by the end of the month despite frequent rain.
The bridge is part of the nearly VND 4 trillion (USD 152 million) Tri An Hydropower Plant expansion project, which will add 200 MW of capacity from two generating units.
The existing Tri An Hydropower Plant, which has a capacity of 400 MW, has been operating since 1990.
