Three female tourists have gone missing after being swept away by large waves while taking photographs and swimming at Mui Nghe in Danang.

Danang City Police said on August 8 that search efforts were under way for three people who were swept out to sea while taking photographs at Mui Nghe in Son Tra Ward, Danang.

According to authorities, at around 6am, a group of six people walked to Mui Nghe to take photographs and swim. Three women, all aged 24, and a 30-year-old man were swept away by large waves.

A fishing boat belonging to a local fisherman managed to rescue the man and handed him over to authorities for medical care. The three women remain missing.

Authorities said the sea was rough and winds were at level 6 in the area at the time, making the search operation difficult.

Son Tra Border Guard Station has been tasked with coordinating shoreline searches with other authorities. Meanwhile, vessels from the Region II Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre, border guard boats and local fishing boats are conducting searches offshore.
